Double-Dip Recession

I read from CNN that the crisis that we are having today is chillingly close to 1929 economic crash. There are so many similarities.

Continuous financial and economic shocks causes the market to nose dive. Fortunately there are some good indicators that help uplift the bloodied market. Good US job numbers and company profits put positive tone to PSE. Almost all of the stocks that I put on my watch list are green and smiling. This make me think, are we going to experience double-dip recession? The index today says no.

I am on the watch mode today. I am planning to sell two of my holdings to transfer the fund to BEL :-). I will be holding this stock until next year (remember casino?). I think the price now is a good entry point.

As I am checking BEL, I found out that it has also some interests in APC which did not have a good quarter and LOTO (I am still verifying this).

S&P Downgrade US Credit Rating to AA+

S&P downgraded US credit rating to AA+ which affected global stock market. Atleast, the good news is Moody's and Fitch still rates US as AAA. Moody's on the other hand lowered its outlook on US debt to "negative" which means it can lower its rating in a year or two.
What's the difference between AA+ and AAA? Almost nothing :-)
Now US government are saying that S&P made a mistake in downgrading its credit rating. So far, S&P is winning as reaction put pressure on investor to sell. But it is too early to know where this current crisis will bring us.

According to the news, Wall Street already knows about the US credit rating downgrade even before its announcement. They don't want surprises - lucky guys. They also blaming Timothy Geithner for the crisis and Timothy's answer is - "I will resign after the debt ceiling is over".

This is the time that we need strong stomach. Prices are down. PSE is in the red zone. Of course, if you were able to get out before the US rating downgrade - you will be smiling by now.

Maybe a day or two would be a good time to buy. Although double dip recession is now flying around - but take it from Warren Buffet - he doesn't believe there will be a crisis in the near future.

Another good news is the plan of European Central Bank (ECB) to buy bonds. This will ease pressure to Spain and Italy which now pulling down European Union's growth. Although EU is very slow on reacting to crisis - still this is a good step on their part. Maybe they should start learning from still frightening global economic situation.

Debt Ceiling and Gold

Debt ceiling - now that US congress voted on it what's next? Expert says that investors would start looking at other economic catalyst such as job reports. The news is grim. Looks like we will have a 'ghostly' August.
I like what one of the US congressmen said - 'white house is systematically broken'. Maybe Obama tend to loose control when pressure on him is on the level which other presidents handled perfectly (or not so perfect). But the end result of the impasse on debt ceiling made the Chinese happy as they bought most of the US debts.

Gold, gold, gold - I made some coffee money in MA. Better than nothing. I bough some PNB, SLI, LIB and BEL stocks. Of course, I still have my MP-Ayyy...

Bought MPI Today

I bought 2,000 MPI shares today. I think it is still one of few stocks that are safe for long term. It is a defensive stock and even if you missed or was not able to sell at the peak, you will not be worried. The only thing that sometimes frustrate me is that the ascent of this stack is so slow. Even almost all of the stocks are shooting up - it is still crawling on the way up but diving on the way down. But I believe MPI will have its time - so I better stick with it.

My favorite stocks now are CYBR and ELI. I don't know why but my mind is telling me to follow my instinct.

BEL Price - Not Yet

I am still hoping that BEL would slide down a bit for me to start buying. I think 4.60 would be the best price to enter.
ELI and CYBER still holding to yesterday's closing price. But volume is low. They are still for the risk takers. Although, I am tempted to buy today but small voice in my head tells me to wait until tomorrow. Maybe he is right?...

After Japan, now its Bahrain. More OFWs are now coming back to Philippines. Without prospect of getting a good job - they will become one of the many problems the government need to address. Hopefully, PiNOY would be able to find the correct formula to alleviate the pressure our country is experiencing due to international economic turmoil brought upon by middle east crisis and Japan natural disaster.

Sell or Buy

It's been a while since I last added entry to my blog. I been busy with work and doing some interesting stuff but still trading... and still hoping.

Tragedy sometimes really pours like rain. Middle east crisis (those freedom fighters, democracy lovers), New Zealand earthquake and now Japan earthquake and tsunami. I feel nervousness in the air. I feel that market will still slide down - question is why it is not as fast as I think it should be? Maybe, investor think that the economic impact of these events can be compartmentalize. Meaning, the effect can be contained within the affected countries. Or maybe, they don't realize yet the possible impact of Japan's crisis to the world economy.

Japan is the 3rd largest economy, only second now to China. According to some analyst, electronic industry will be affected in our country (I am not sure how it will affect those kind and sweet Japayukis and Bilog). Some politicians says that Japan soon be cutting back aids to us (those crazy politicians...). In simple word, Philippines will be affected (we are always affected when other countries hit some problems).

But as investor, I think it is a great opportunity for me to look at my portfolio. Maybe its time to buy those that I think would be flying comes better days. So, I bought CYBR and ELI then cross my fingers.

Good News and Bad News

4. Flooding in the southern part of the country.

Good News:
Pinoy - Filipino of the year!

I thought rabbit is a good sign that is why it was adopted as a playboy sign? How many times that we see women in sexy bunny costume made men salivate and tickled they imaginative side. But in the contrary, what happening in the first month of the year of the rabbit is so disgusting! I hate admit it, but we Filipinos are becoming like a rabbit - private and a bit introvert. There are a lot of things happening around us and sometimes we just turn a blind eye or maybe we lost interest on things that are everyday part of our existence - carnappings, kidnapping, murder, gun for hire, corruption in the government, politicking, bombing, police brutality, terrorism, PUV fare increase, gas price, traffic, drugs, religions and money.

I hope rabbit's calm personality would give us time to think and be a better person.

Bad things that are happening in our country is a product of how we lost control of the situation. These events would definitely affect our economy. Killings and carnapping only highlight the need to improve our security. Bombing is the failure of the intelligence community. It is frustrating that other country has a better intelligence gathering capability here in Philippines than the NBI, PNP and AFP combine. Countries such as Australia, New Zealand and US released warning to its citizens of the possible terrorist attack to the Philippines before Buendia bus bombing. The only answer from Malacanang - is that - the warning is not directed to a bus bombing! What a bunch of morons! (sorry for may French).
I just hope that those who are tasked to do this job would step up and bring those who perpetrate this terroristic act to the bar of justice.

We should have a good and capable police force and not a 40-year old PO1 who breaks the law, not a general that only wanted to acquire millions in the promise that he will get reprieve by giving back half of what he plundered, not a politician who look good in front of the camera but raking up millions in kickbacks, not people who look for killers to murder an innocent commentator by misleading a killer that the people he is about to silent is a rapist, not bishop that is too moral to ask women to go against HR bill, not extremist that will do everything to push the country into chaos just to get the peace they are dreaming of, not people that will ask for protection money for company to be able to conduct their business, not companies that doesn't mind that destruction that they are doing to the environment.

As predicted, La Nina is bringing rains to our country. There are flooding in the southern part of the Philippines which claimed so many lives. The flooding and lost of lives only shows the un-preparedness of the government to handle this kind of situation and of course, poor governance of the people we voted to the public office.

Gondola accident, I think would not affect market. Only career of politicians who did not do their job to police unscrupulous contractors.

Lastly, maybe what is happening in January is just spill-over of 2010. Maybe February 2011 will be the start of something brilliant!

Market is down. I am not really sure how deep will be the correction. Today is the second day of descent. Hopefully, tomorrow the bleeding will stop.

I tried to buy MPI today at 3.71 but my post was not hit. So far, MPI is holding to its support. Same story with AGI. It was down today.

BEL is another story. I really like this stock. It's like AGI when it was trending up from 4 to 10-ish pesos. Maybe 7.50 pesos will be a good TP for this stock.

Will PSEi follow the lead of foreign indexes? Of course! Actually, I can see GREEN waiting in the corner.
I think, we will definitely see a bigger gain today. The market surge was due to Portugal bond auction. Next will be Spain's turn.

CYBR and European Woes

CYBR really blessed those who happened to buy at lows. I can't really believed that RSA can make every stocks fly high! So, please buy some MPI :-)
Speaking of MPI - I think it is still holding its place. It was down yesterday but now it is making a comeback. I don't see any resistance breakage this week or next week (unless European woes will be resolved). AGI is still good as it was never fall below 10.50. I would recommend a hold for both stocks.

I read that Europe will be the dark horse for 2011. Currently, it's the European problems that pulling down the market. Portugal is the main concern of European union. I hope they will be able to find solution fast. I don't want to see red this year.

CYBR, CYBER, CYBR

I really, really envy those who profited on CYBR. It is only 0.5-ish 6 days ago and now it hit 1 peso level! Congrats to those traders who stick it out with CYBR :)

Re my portfolio, I think AGI is now in consolidating mode and gathering momentum for the next uptrend. MPI is trying to breakout. I can see that it will hit the jackpot next week.

Day, Medium or Long Trading

I think PSE has a good start for 2011. I believe we will have a good market this year. Of course, there will be correction along the way as other healthy market does. If you are not risk savvy investor - it is time to accumulate on weakness and do some medium or long term tradings. Doing that will give a higher return instead of being a Tsupitero. But if you want excitement - then by all means, day trade. I know how exciting it is to be a Tsupitero. Especially, when you see your portfolio in green and earn thousand of pesos in just a couple of days. The downside is when you put your money in a wrong stocks and was not able to get out because your brain doesn't agree with you. When your stubborn self is hoping for a rally that you know will never come. When you are down 50% and agree with me that you should long instead. But if you learn from it - then you are still not a loser (almost). It is better to lose 50% of your portfolio and still have the guts to stand up and do better instead of losing 5% and accept the defeat. I think - trading is like learning how to walk. Most of the time you make a wrong turn and smack your head a little but as you grow up you learn to veer away from it. As they said - it is better to stumbled down than not to take the first steps.

I still have my AGI and MPI. I added 1,000 shares of MPI today. I can see MPI benefiting from toll increase which will be completed on April this year. 300% will bring a lot of money to MPI.

MPI Acquires Additional Stakes in Citra:
MPI acquires addition stakes in Citra through MPTC which will result in 2.56% ownership of the company. MPI goal is to increase its stake to 33% in Skyway Project. Citra is concession holder for the Metro Manila Skyway Project.

AGI's Potential

I think AGI has a good showing for the last trading day of 2010. With CLSA and UBS on buying spree. Maybe they were touched by holiday spirit. Or maybe because of AGI's decision to dip its hands on the gaming industry (I just don't know why foreign likes gaming business?). It is a joint venture of AGI, Travellers International Hotel Group and Genting Hong Kong Ltd. So, I think Genting will be bringing in the customers and Traveller's will take care of accommodations while AGI is the one counting the money :-)

MPI is also in the green zone today (Almost all the industries except service gained points today). PSEi added 35.32 points to its previous points of 4,163.99 which resulted in its current index of 4,199.31 points - to close the year. At the end - PSEi closed the year with a bang (small bang). This is a good indication of what is coming in 2011. Possibly another prosperous and blessed year. I think I made a good decision to buy bulk of my portfolio this month.

I failed to buy stocks today as I was busy preparing for new year (or my brain is in new year's mode). This is the problem with having this holiday spirit. Sometimes you forget things. Anyway, I can still buy next year - so, why worry?

Mining Companies

Mining companies gain the most on this year (2010). Precious metals prices are at all time high. This brings profit to the coffers of these mining companies. Philex and Nickle Asia definitely has a good year. These are the two giants in mining industry. I think next year will still be a profitable year for them as emerging economies like Brazil, India and China will need metals to sustain their infrastructure requirements brought about by economic spike.

Now, the hurdles that these mining companies need to overcome is the threat of NPA attack. This element which tax businesses in mostly rural areas are asking for 15 to 20 million pesos as protection money. According to the report - some mining companies threaten to pullout of the country if this problem will not be resolved by the government. This is definitely a bad thing. This is bad for our country. This is bad for JAP :-)

The government should have a hard look at this decade old problem. It is now time for both parties to come to the table and discuss how to end the conflict which devastated our country for decade now. If it is really for the interest of the people - then, it is a high time for them to work on the common ground and help each other achieve a long lasting peace for our country.I have not read or hear any concrete plan from the government how they will tackle this problem. This is the same on the part of the NPA. I hope this time they will be able to find a common ground to work on.
As the government - I believe that they should be doing more than putting people in government position. If those who are tasked to regulate mining sector are doing their job - then there will be less happy people. We have problems in the past where mining companies did not give just compensation to affected families when their mining companies poisoned our rivers and land. If these government officials are doing their job - I believe there will be no reason for NPA to ask for protection money (they say to give it back to affected communities). If these companies left the country - we Filipinos are the losers here. When the money goes, the jobs goes with them as well.

Oh holiday spirit - you make me emotional.

I did not buy any stocks today. I think I might buy some tomorrow. I still don't know if it is AGI or MPI. Although, I am more keen on buying MPI.

Enough Money in my Pockets

Christmas is fast approaching... I've got enough money in my pockets - the rest is secured in my portfolio.
I was able to buy AGI and MPI shares yesterday. I posted a buy on MPI today but was not hit. So, I will try again tomorrow. Currently, about 1/3 of my portfolio is in MPI as I believed the upside potential of this stock is high compared to other stocks in its industry. I just hope that next year Manny P. will start buying some of its shares in the market. If that happens, it only means that even the company believes in its potential for growth.
For next year, Toll will be one of the biggest contributor to MPI coffer since it will earn more on the toll increase. Although it is good for MPI - but a bitter pill to those who will be affected.
Maybe, we will see some rally by the militants groups, bus operators, truck operators and businessmen who uses expressway to bring their goods to Manila - but at the end - a bitter pill need to be swallowed.

Another move by Manny P. is the sell of ePLDT to IPVG. I think it is a good decision since this business have little room to grow. Look at the place near you, have you seen a lot of internet cafes? Those are probably owned by people who think this business is still profitable. Maybe, some are still earning - but most of them probably will be closed in a couple of months.

Buying AGI and MPI

I an still in the training and was not able to update my blog until today.

I am positioning still in AGI and MPI. Although AGI is sliding this week but I believe it will be flying next year. My plan is to add more next week. Maybe I will not be buying tomorrow but will only watch where the PSEi is going.

According to some article that I read, index will be going back to 3,700 - 3,800 level first quarter of next year before trending up again to hit 5,000 points!

Today, I bought 2,000 shares of MPI and 1,000 shares of AGI.

As we can see, foreign are in selling mode.

My New Favorite Stocks

I think AGI plan of selling its treasury stocks in block is a good news for investors as it will minimize the impact to its share price. Maybe that is one of the reasons why AGI is still trending up (I just bought 1,000 shares @11.98). I really believe that this stock will 'fly' next year. It is one of foreign favorite stocks.As per Tsupitero - they are setting up this stock for run up.

MPI is still in sideways movement. I added another 2,000 shares today @ 3.51. I still love this stock as it has a lot of upside potential.

So, now I have to favorite stocks - AGI and MPI. What's yours?

VLL Play

You can really tell when JAP is in the works.
VLL today got volume - 56M. Not bad for this time of year. Maybe JAP need more 'hamonados' for christmas :-). I still have my miniscule shares of VLL. It's the first day of ascent. Maybe I can still sell tomorrow - will see.

I sold my EDC today for coffee money. I will be buying again at the 3rd week of December. I am thinking of AGI instead of EDC. But still I am worried on AGI's plan to sell its treasury stocks. I still have my MPI which is my long position. I will buy additional 8,000 shares before end of this year.

As expected, volume for this month tend to be thin. But what can I say - it is a holiday season!

AGI's Tourism Project

I bought AGI at 12.24 (did I say I expect it to drop to 12-peso level?). The low was 12.06 which I think a very good entry price for short trading.

Now, I am concern on AGI's tourism project. I don't know yet how this would affect the current price. It plans to sell 7 billion common shares from its treasury. I don't know if spreading the sell would minimize the impact on the share price. This 7 billion shares would account for 5.7 percent of the existing common shares in the market. I will be waiting how foreign will react to this development. But for the past 2 days DBP-DAIWA is buying.

I don't like the volume today. It's 'thin' even for those stocks that was up today. It is expected as this is December and people are spending their money to buy christmas presents and also due to profit taking. I did not buy AGI today because I feel it will still slide down to 12-peso level. My EDC, VLL and MPI is green. But I think they will be moving sideways for this month.

I am planning to still fatten up my MPI portfolio. Maybe I will buy at the 3rd week of this month. When people are not 'thinking of stock market' and I am the only one concerned.

Clean and Cheap

Eat all you can at 99 pesos only (additional 35 for iced tea)! Food is good although not as many variety as other known restaurants. It is still a fair deal though. Not heavy on pockets. All food are Filipino cuisine, such as, adobo, pork sinigang, sinigang na isda, fried fish, vegetables, tahong, rice, etc. You will surely get your money's worth. The place is along V. Luna road near East Avenue Quezon City.

BTW, for those new to stocks, you may want to check investopediato to get some tutorial on stock trading. I am at SM North Edsa and reading some tutorial on Hedge Fund.

13th Month Pay

Now I am really smiling :)

My 13th month pay just reflected in my account when I checked this morning. I am tempted to buy new gadget - probably ipod touch 32gb. But I am controlling myself although something in my mind is not agreeing with me. I know it is not wise to spend my hard earned money to something that I would not have much use of but as a music or game player (I am already got an Ipad). I will not be getting all the money though. My wife will have the bigger piece of the pie (I always get around 20%). So, what I will be doing with my share? These are what I am planning to do:

Deposit to my children's account. Probably I'll add 1,000 pesos for each of the account. I have 3 children. So, that would mean 3,000 for all of them.
Buy my youngest a bike. She likes bike - sometimes. Or maybe I will deposit the money to her account and only buy a bike when we are sure she will like it.
I will buy polo and probably a running shoes.
I will save the rest of the money.

As usual, it is Friday and profit taking day. I bought AGI and just earning 1.02 cents as of the moment. I still like the volume. I think some holders already sold earlier. I will give this stock until next week. I think no cause for panic yet as DOW is green.
MPI is slowly creeping up and EDC is still holding its space.

As I expected, AGI is now in an uptrend mode. It has broken its previous high with volume - 95M! Unfortunately, I sold mine and earned some coffee money. Maybe I should buy again next week. It would definitely correct as it is now in its 3-day gain mode. DBP-DAIWA is the highest buyer. Let hope they will not sell next week. So, I will advice you to please monitor this broker - you would not like buying AGI when it is selling. Next resistance probable would be 13.50.

I still have EDC, MPI and small shares of VLL.
DEUTSCHE is buying EDC and VLL while CLSA is buying MPI. It is always foreign who makes me happy :). JAP got me once and that will be the last.

It's a good day today (not to die)!
I been watching some stocks and they are all green at the opening! Is this a reversal time? I really think so :-)

I will try dipping my hands in AGI. I can see breakout for this stock. I will give it till next week :-). 44M shares as of 10.10am. DBP-DAIWA Securities is the highest buyer. Followed by ATR Securities and Tsupiteros!

I think the gain in PSE today is due to its reaction to EU (good) news. Now EU nations are stepping up to correct its market problems. The EU Central Bank will be buying government debts with US helping via IMF funds. Probably, we will see another rally in a short period as big fund managers will be back into market (but will be very cautious).

I did bought 2,000 shares of AGI. It is the second day of its ascent. So, I will have until tomorrow to take some coffee money.

Lastly, I might be correct when I say that I will be smiling for the rest of the year :)

I am not sure if I am beginning to be a better investor. You see, I am buying MPI even though it is sliding down the 'drainage'. Maybe I was so successful in psych-ing myself in believing that MPI is a good investment. To start with, it own hospitals, toll roads, meralco, MWC and now MRT. I still think that the downtrend is due to external factors, such as, European woes and Korean instability.

Here's one of a few examples how recent market crash help people in the goverment realized that they need to help other nation to avoid double-dip recession. Ireland bailout is the nail they need to bite in order to avoid similar problem that may affect other European nations. Let us wait how Portugal and Spain would react to some negative news regarding their economy.

Again, today is not a good day for PSE. Only Service and Mining and Oil is green today. Other industries retreated due to 100 decliners. Again, I managed to add 2,000 shares on my MPI portfolio.

US Black Friday and Philipines Long Holiday

It is nice that sometimes you got an opportunity to spend time with your family. It is almonst December and it is a good time spending some money I saved and portion of what I earned from my tradings this year (mainly due to discounts).

I really thought that I'll be negative this year as I lost some profit during the early months of this year. Fortunately, I was saved by JGS. I bought JGS around 18 and sold them at 25! Now I got myself an IPad and a little profit to make me smile for the rest of e year (possibly).

SM is in a 3 day sale until 29 of November. There are lots of discounted items to choose from. I am thinking of buying some Polo shirts but hasn't really made my mind yet. Maybe I still not in a Holiday mood. Maybe my tracings taught me a lesson to think twice before buying things. If it is not a necessity then it can wait until I have excess money. It is like asking yourself - 'do you just like it or you really needed it?'. I think for now, I just like buying which is not a good reason to throw away hard earned money.

As Americans are celebrating Black Friday, I think it will be s good reason for retailers to celebrate. It will be an additional profit for them. I know, investors of those companies are celebrating now. So, do you think SM and URC would be a good buy?

4,000 Here We Come!

Firstly, I managed to get 2,000 shares of MPI.

Where's PSE is heading? My guess is not in a 'deep blue sea' but rather I believe it is just a correction and needed break (don't just believe me).
We cannot discount also that the downtrend is partly due to Euro crisis, i.e. Ireland banking sector problem, Spain and Portugal deficit issue plus the Korean incident. These things are just indication that we are in the early stage of recovery which is good since it means a good time to buy stocks that will 'fly' 3 to 5 years from now. It is one of the reasons why I am buying MetroPac - MPI.

I got burned by Nickle Asia. Never again I that I will let myself fall victim to BPITrade's Jurassic online trading system! I did not subscribed to IP Converge Data Center's IPO. If I did - I will just get 800(ish) shares anyway. So, I will try to stay away from IPO and focus on my MPI accumulation.

Boring day...

Not really.
I think this is the right time to reflect on how we do our trades. Market is slipping but that should not cause for any worries. It happens all the time. It is a part of the market wave where we should jump in and go with the ascent.
I believe that the problems market are now facing is not as bad as of the last 2 or 3 years where the world economy crumbled. The difference mainly is - people in the government and private sectors knows now what they will need to do. They have been in the worst market conditions. A lot of laws has been enacted to counteract the brunt of any, if there is, market fallout. I think we are in the road to recovery.

Korean posturing, Ireland and China issues are but normal occurrence in the aftermath of any market collapse. For Korea - we know how America operate. If it is not of their best interest, then war in Korea will not happen. I know it is not of their best interest to declare another war when they are still facing problems in Afghanistan and Iraq. It will hit them hard economically.

What about PSE? As expected, the index always reacts to negative news (at least not violently). PSEi is still down. I managed to grab 1,000 shares of MPI at 3.73 though. Hopefully my accumulation will be rewarded after 3 years :-).

Korean War and the Market

Almost hundred artillery shells landed in South Korea fired by North Korea. Two South Korean soldiers died and houses was burned.
This incident coupled with Ireland crisis brought down the market and did not spare PSE. As I am in the training, I have limited time checking the market. It is OK since I will not like 'red' anyway. The only thing I did today was bought 2,000 shares of MPI at 3.79.

I said from my previous blog that I got 800 shares of NIKL from BPITrade. Here is what happened:
1. I subscribed for 5,000 shares.
2. They deducted payment for 5,000 shares from my portfolio last Nov 8 (if I am not mistaken).
3. They only able to allocated 800 shares for me. They returned the fund 3 or 4 days before IPO date.
4. 800 shared did not reflect in my portfolio last 22 November 2010!!!
5. I send an email to them to check if I really have the 800 shares!!!
6. 800 shares reflected in my portfolio today!!! - Too F..... late!!!

I hate to see IPO price drops when you are expecting it to hit the ceiling! It goes as far as 19+ but retraced back to 16.50! Foreign are selling in the first day! Let us hope those that bought at the bottom would be able to profit tomorrow -(calling JAP). Personally, I think there still steam left for this stock. It would be easier for jockey to push up the price since the price is not as expensive as CebuPac and the closing price is setup for another round tomorrow.

Caffe Ti-Amo was established in South Korea in 2006 with 269 stores. It serves gelato* and coffee. Jollibee and businesswoman Pamela Tan equally owns the franchise here in the Philippines.

I wrote regarding Nickle Asia priced at 18 in OTC market. That was from online forums I read. I am not a trading guru. I don't have a very good understanding of what OTC means. I said from my previous blog that I will check its meaning. As promised, here's what I gathered from looking online :-)

"Over-the-counter (OTC) or off-exchange trading is to trade financial instruments such as stocks, bonds, commodities or derivatives directly between two parties. It is contrasted with exchange trading, which occurs via facilities constructed for the purpose of trading (i.e., exchanges), such as futures exchanges or stock exchanges."

Tomorrow is Nickle Asia IPO. Hopefully I will get a good profit from my 800 shares (nice one BPITrade) :-). The problem that I am facing really is how will I execute my tradings tomorrow since I will be attending company training the whole day! Maybe I should step out of the room before 9.30 and check the price and post sell. So, how about my plan for day trading Nickle Asia? Hmmmp... How about drinking lots of coffee to have reason going to comfort room? Or maybe using my 3G phone and trades under my desk :-). I just hope our instructor would not mind me...

What Bad News?

We heard about the problem in Ireland. We heard about the hiking of interest rate in China. We read about political positioning in Europe. These are some of the news that pushed down that stock market.
Today, PSEi added around 82+ points! Biggest gainers are Industrial followed, Mining and Holdings.

EDC and MPI is doing good - 59M and 44M volume of transactions, respectively. I think I bought a very promising stocks :-)
My VLL is a sad story. It shed another 0.04 cent from its previous price. I am thinking of buying at lows to average down.
I am monitoring ORE and BEL. They said that ORE price will be pushed up on the Nickle Asia 1st trading day? Is this true? I am tempted to believe but I am cutting down on risks now. So, I will just watch from the sideline. BEL is another story. It became strong in the middle of the trading period. I checked the chart and it shows that it is in an uptrend mode for a couple of days now - is it because of APC? So, I think it is now due for correction. Maybe, next week. Let's see.

I am feeling a bit frustrated today. I thought that I was able to get 5,000 of Nickle Asia but it turns out my allocation is just 800 shares (what happened BPI?)! They deducted the full amount from my trading account last Nov 8. So, I thought I will get the 5,000 but I learned yesterday that I only got 800!
Am I still lucky? I don't know? I read from TradersPizza that some of the guys there were not able to get allocation from their broker...pity...pity...

So, what 800 shares can give me? Maybe 5K on Nov 22? I should be happy with that :-)

I also planning to day trade Nickle Asia on day 1. I don't know if it is a good idea or not.

It is a good day today - at least to all bargain hunters. Luckily for me I was not 100% invested in the market. I was able to put some of my money in Nickle Asia IPO which according to rumor is now worth 18 pesos per share in over-the-counter (what is over-the-counter btw? - will be checking the meaning of this today). Fearless forecast of TP guru is 22 pesos on the opening :-).

According to news the downtrend is due to China raising its interest rate and market turmoil in Europe. Maybe its time to lighten up my portfolio more and wait for market correction.

MPI and EDC are red but VLL is green today. VLL opened at 3.25 and closed at 3.26. Just a mere 0.01 cent...

Congressman Manny Pacquiao did it again!

This time against Antonio Margarito who is taller and heavier than him! His win today truly cemented his position as pound-for-pound king! The next Muhammad Ali as some analysts are saying. Pacquiao really doesn't have anything to prove unlike the 'talkative' Floyd Mayweather Jr. Maybe he should retire and devout his time to his family and his constituents. It is not nice to see him with a lot of money but cannot enjoy them because of the disease associated with boxing like what happened to Ali and Coach Freddy Roach - Alzheimer's disease.

He is already 31 (younger than me - tsk tsk tsk), it is time for him to enjoy his hard earned money.

Of course with Manny's win - Chavit is very happy again :-)

As team Pacquiao is enjoying the win, I don't know if we will enjoy PSE tomorrow. I hope that the market will bounce off from its downtrend and regain the lost points. All my portfolio is down but I am not YET worried ;-)

Is it the end of the red days? Is this the end of the correction stage? Is it the end of the consolidation phase? Let us hope and pray...

I am happy that my MPI is green today as I got loads of them! It is such a happy day for all Tsupiteros who bought this stock yesterday at the bottom. It is a combined forces of ATR Securities and CLSA Philippines that push up the price. More than 25M! Citisec also bought more than 5M shares. I think it is one of Tsupiteros favorite stocks nowadays. According to my colleague who attended TradersPizza's seminar - JAP also advising attendees to buy this stock because it is cheap compare to other companies in the same industry. I too believed that.

I also believed that MPI has a lot of potential to be one of the best company here in Philippines. It got power distribution, water distribution, hospitals, toll roads and ABC 5? These businesses boosted MPI January to September core net income to 2.94B which in turns made them decide to re-calibrate this year earnings from 3.3B (originally 3B) to 3.5B! That's a lot of money! Let us see how Manny Pangilinan move his company to earn more next year - maybe buy more PLDT shares?

Nickel Asia and My Portfolio

I was able to subscribe 5,000 shares of Nickle Asia from my BPI Trade account. This is the first time that I will be buying IPO shares. Hopefully I will get some profit out of it.

Plans? I am thinking of selling half of the shares on the first trading day and sell the rest the next day. This way, I can cover my loss if the price goes down or gain more profit if the price goes up.

With 15 a piece, I think it would be easier for the Jockeys out there to push up the price to 30! BTW, is SB Securities associated to JAP?

Economic Outlook

It seems not a good time to bet on the market right now. Typhoons are now battering the country. NEDA said that it will drag down economic activities of around 1%. Not a good sign.
Ondoy really did ruin some part of the country, especially NCR. Indonesia was racked by intensity 8 earthquake and Samoan islands was hit by tsunami.
These events would impact the economic activities not only here but abroad. U.S. indeces are now showing signs of weakness. As of 02 Oct 2009 - all of them are red.

In PSE, I think there will be short reaction that we will see in the market as investor will do a "wait and see" attitude again. So, if I would be in the market and have a good value stocks, I will wait for another bull run which I can see to start again around early November this year. If I have "third line" stocks, I will sell them righ away!

I am holding EDC and MEG.

I think I got lucky in EDC as I bought it at 4.3 level and now it's playing between 4.45 to 4.7. My plan is to hold this stock until December or when I think I should sell them. I am not fearful yet as I know it will eventually break 4.9. EDC is the largest producer of renewable energy in the Philippines. This is a value stock as far as I know.

MEG is holding to its resistance of around 1.48. I am not yet concern on its capability to give me some profit as it has a good future earning potentials. I am planning to sell it around 1.8 - 2.0 :).

Oh, I forgot. I got a miniscule shares of CMT :) Hehehe.

Currently, I am holding ALI and MPI in my Citisec account. I got whipsawed a lot doing tsupita. I really not into day trading but I am learning. Hopefully, someday I will be a good Tsupitero :)

I am still holding my EDC, PAX and FLI shares. Something is telling me to get out of the market but as of now I want to ride the rally. I was burned before. Selling my shares while the market is in a rally. It cost me dearly :). Now, as I realise, I should not sell while there is a rally.

EDC and PAX are down a bit but I am not too worried. People tend to sell when they see a profit (especially the new one) but I believed these stocks will rally again.

Maybe, I will sell some of my stocks on Friday. I really want to get out of the market come August to plan again my next big move!

The bull is alive today! It is a happy time for some traders and tenseful moment for others. I bought FLI and some PAX stocks today. I am bullish on both stocks. FLI is consistently making an uphill turn. PAX is somewhat hesitant. But I have faith to this stock. It will breakout soon!

I am also holding EDC which I bought from 4.3 and 4.4 level. I am just waiting for my target price. Hopefully it will be within this week. I really wanted to release all my stocks at the end of this month and buy again at the end of correction period.

I am new in the market and I am still trying to feel how the market would react during ghost month.

I sold all of my EDC shares today! Got some pretty good profit! I thought it will really push up now but fortunately it lacks some gas. I will wait and see what will happen to this stock. I also sold half of my PCOR shares which I bought last year! I lost a few bucks but better than waiting for this stock to go up. I can use the money instead to buy other stocks.

I've been trading for a year now and still learning. I've done some bad decisions (a lot!) but learned so much in the process (I only got 12% profit YTD - not bad for an amateur though). I started June last year and now it's my anniversary of being a trader (Whew!) . In general, it is not a bad 1 year. I was able to protect my capital and earned a bit. Hopefully I will be more wiser in doing trades these coming years.

I still got EDC shares and some PCOR shares ( I'm not proud about my PCOR :-) ). I am happy to hold EDC as this one is holding up. I am not so sure about PCOR. This is my mistakes which I now know where I got whacked! Basically, it is going to the market without a proper tools. I only used fundamentals and guts (bad, bad, bad). I am basically zero in technical analysis. BIG, BIG mistake (not something to be proud of). Now I gained some basic knowledge but still honing them. This year I pegged my goal to earn 20%. I know this is achievable (think positive). Hell, other guys can make 40%! All I want is just 20%! hehehe.

See, I'm becoming a bull now - not a good idea though... He he he.

I think I got lucky when I bought EDC shares. It is going up. I will get a decent profit if I sell them now. But why rush? I will let myself wait a little while before selling my EDC shares. I also have PCOR shares and half of them I bought last year. I can take profit for the other half but I want to trade the high. Tomorrow, probably I will sell them so that I can buy other shares for short term.

As expected stocks are up today. Major indeces in the US gained a few points yesterday. India stocks soars due to election results and positive economic reforms.
I bought additional EDC stocks as I think its price will break 3.9 if positive news will continue tomorrow. There will be some reports from US that could push the current positive news. It might be a good idea to hold my PCOR and EDC stocks for awhile.

My outstanding shares is down by around 2%. I still have EDC and PCOR shares. I am fortunate enought that EDC is holding to its support level. I gained some points from my PCOR but it still cannot compensate for my loss in EDC.
According to some economist, investors are still waiting for another catalyst that will re-start the two months positive tradings. I just hope that next week we will hear some good news.
On a separate note, I still doesn't know why DMC shares are up last week? Intriguing...

I earned around 8% of my DMC positions. I still don't know why its share price goes up. I tried searching the web but found nothing. I think the price will not go up much further but I can be wrong though.

I don't know if I can call it newbie mistake... First with MEG. I bought MEG shares at 0.67 and sold them at 0.79. I thought it will not going beyond that price. I was wrong! I hadn't thought of its offering! It will certainly go up to almost 1.0!
Second, I sold my DMC stock today at 5.8. Another big mistake! It climb to 6.3! Maybe I should be very careful next time! I did not think of the volume! Tsk tsk tsk.
I don't know what happened to DMC but I will find out soon why loads of people bought this shares.

Barack Obama's Inauguration

I watched the inauguration of the elected US president this morning (1AM). It's amazing to see so many people around the world went to capital to take part in this historic moment in American presidency. Obama comes from the minority group (African American) and rise to where he is now through hardwork and some luck. He graduated in Harvard as magna cum laude. He is intelligent, smart and charismatic politician.
Former presidents also attended the event. These presidents, although have differences with each other, went to the event as american. You can see them as they approach each other like friends (you don't see that here in our country).
The inaugural speech, though full of promises, did not affect the plunging market. Investor still in "watch and see" attitude. Stock market still in dismal trading, banking sector in Europe is in shamble (especially, UK banks), bailout funds are not working (yet) as bank still not lending money. Most businesses hopes that Obama will continue pushing federal money to the market (buying bad loans, infusing capital to ailing businesses, etc). Most of them think that this what Obama would do as he has no choice but to "bite the nail".
I've checked PSE as I wanted to buy some MEG stocks. As of today, PSEi dipped a few points. I tried to buy share at around 0.62/share but unfortunately, the price stayed at 0.63/share. Maybe I will try again tomorrow.

Middle East Conflict

I am new in stock market. I read that there are some events that affect stock prices. Is the current conflict will affect the stock market?
According to one site I visited, oil now priced at 47 USD per barrel due to the middle east conflict and Russia tightening its oil production.
Would this conflict affect Philippine stock market prices? I don't know, but let us pray that the conflict end and local market will not be affected.

As of today, stock index is up by 5.4% due to bargain hunting. Blue chips are down of about 48% which I think is a good investment if you are going long.

How long would the crisis last? Financial managers predict until 3rd quarter of this year others think that it would be a long financial crisis especially that the congress think that the 700 billion bailout is not working (so far). Retrenchment of employees are continuous which would definitely affect the consumer spending.

Here in the Philippines, life goes on. People felt the whipped of the financial crisis but we always survive. Let us just tightened our belt a little more.

Auto Bailout

Looks like the Federal Goverment is bent in helping the big three (now becoming the "small three"). I think the goverment can't let these companies go bankrupt as this will definitely affect the devastated US economy. There are some people who think that these three should be saved. They said that if the US goverment spend billions of dollars in Iraq and Aghanistan, helping other countries, why not spend money in helping its own people. By not helping these big three will result in unemployment. So why not helped them to avoid adding percentage in the rising unemployment rate?
Another problem in this bailout is the stand of the Unionist. They don't want pay cut to be implemented now to be realligned with Japan job pay. I think they want it only after 2010.

Let's pray that they find a common ground to work it out and come up with win-win solution to the problem.

On the other side, stocks are up today. I have MEG shares which I will be selling even if I will only earn a few bucks. I am still on my plan of buying shares come February 2009.

Pacquiao Fight

National hero done it again!!!
Pacquiao won the match with the golden boy. It's a mismatch from the very beginning. They said Dela Hoya is too big for "Pambansang Kamao" but Pacman proved them wrong, mismatch is the other way around.
Pacman definitely affects all components of Filipino life. From individual to national politics. According to PNP, there are no crime incidents happenned during the fight. Maybe all bad elements are glued on the TV. That's a good news!
The bad news? Politician put Pacman on top of their duties. Let's see... Atienza... congressmen... tsk tsk tsk.

Back to economy: What is the effect of this fight to our economy? Let's pray Pacquiao spend his millions in the Philippines not in other countries. But that his money anyway.

Landslide and Stocks

I've been to bicol (Camarines Norte) last week and it is raining like hell! Landslide and damaged detours are everywhere! There is a landslide near our home that covered the whole road. It took 2 dump trucks and a bulldozer to clear the road after 4 days! Boy, the goverment of Camarines Norte would be known for their being too slow to respond on such events! But with good luck, we came back to Manila in one piece :)

4 days without information of what's going on in financial market (what a rest!). I kept thinking how my stocks are doing and a whole market as well. Not surprisingly, it is still the same. With news about bailout, credit crunch philippine politics - all sucks!

Stocks these days are going landslide, but as Buffet said, "It's time to be greedy when others are fearful".

Mumbai Blast

Yesterday (November 27) there was a terrorist attack in Mumbai, India. More than 100 people died as a result of this attack. The event did not affect trading in US although a lot of American are doing business in India.

Today at PSE, stocks are a bit lower, I don't know if it is an after effect of this attack. PSE gain for the past 4 days due to Wall Street rally as goverment news of bailout on car industry and bargain stock buying. I hope the rally would continue until January next year.

As for stock buying, I think waiting until February next year will be a good idea. The market is not yet stable and it will catch up around April next year [based on my fearless forecast :) ]

Yet another casualty?
Is AIG Philippine affected by the current woes of its parent company? According to financial experts, if it is traditional insurance operations like property, casualty, auto and life insurance to annuity and investment services, they are insulated and AIG still have the capability to pay claims.

It is also a very positive news that federal goverment release 85 billion dollars emergency loan and allowed to use 20 billion from its subsidiaries. This move is due to the fact that disorderly failure of AIG could further hurt delicate US economic situation.

The question now is, with AIG parent company's situation, how big is the impact to AIG Philippines?

Stock Market Tumbled

Today asian stock market dived as a result of continued fear on US market slowdown and problem with Lehman Brothers and the credit crunches due to subprime mortgage which affected Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac. Nekkei 225 index, Hong Kong stock index, South Korea's Kospi, Taiwan benchmark, Australia and New Zealand all suffered negative points.

Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEI) suffered one of its biggest negative points as it sheds more than 100 points to its present index. Trading is a bit gloomy in this weeks tradings. Although, oil prices is down (about 97 per barrel) but fear and speculation on US economy affected Asian market especially the Philippines. Coupled with low peso rate againts the dollar, prices of imported products would definitely go up. Inflation for this month is as high as 12% which prompted the goverment to re-assess its economic target for this year.

Philippine Best Online Broker

I am trading stocks using an online broker. The broker is owned by one of the biggest bank here in the Philippines. I don't have other account in other broker as it would be difficult for me to track my stocks.
I just started in stock market, I don't know which is the best online broker in the Philippines. I asked my friend who has a lot of experience in an online trading, he told me that citiseconline is the best online broker (for him) since it is faster in terms of updating its quotations and gives a lot of advises to its client.
